The BCWS fire information officer highlighted the reopening of Highway 97 near Cache Creek after being closed for weeks due to the Pear Lake wildfire.

In Summerland, B.C., more residents are allowed to return home as the evacuation order has been downgraded to an alert. However, residents are advised to stay prepared for any changes in evacuation status based on evolving conditions. Mayor Doug Holmes mentioned that around 800 properties had their evacuation orders lifted, bringing the total under evacuation alert to approximately 1,200.

The situation remains optimistic, with efforts to allow more residents to return gradually. The BCWS is monitoring the weather for potential lightning strikes and wildfires in southern B.C. Meanwhile, firefighting crews from New Brunswick and Quebec have been deployed to assist with over 120 fires burning across the province, primarily ignited by lightning strikes.

Highways impacted by wildfires include Highway 97 in the Cache Creek area and the Okanagan region, which have seen closures and limited reopenings due to ongoing fire activity. The Bald Range wildfire near Summerland continues to pose challenges, covering an area exceeding 210 square kilometers. Additionally, the Brunswick Creek wildfire complex near Boston Bar spans over 700 square kilometers as of the latest update.
