Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the star player for the Toronto Blue Jays, has been cleared to return to the lineup after a brief stint on the injured list. Guerrero sustained an injury during a game against the New York Yankees when he collided with rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. The incident occurred during a play at third base in the sixth inning of the game, which the Blue Jays ultimately won 3-1.
Following the collision, Guerrero underwent concussion protocols and participated in a minor league rehabilitation game for single-A Dunedin. After passing his final concussion tests and showing good form during batting practice, Guerrero was deemed fit to rejoin the team.
Guerrero, a six-time all-star, is set to bat second in the lineup for the Blue Jays in their upcoming game against the Yankees. To make room for Guerrero on the roster, the Blue Jays have optioned Davis Schneider to triple-A Buffalo.
Before his injury, Guerrero was having a strong season, batting .263 with seven home runs and 46 runs batted in. He had been particularly hot at the plate, hitting .310 in his last seven games. His return is expected to bolster the Blue Jays’ lineup as they continue their season.
