A large number of applications and services require a monthly fee for their usage, and now WhatsApp might be introducing a similar model. Recently, the team at WABetaInfo discovered that the Meta-owned messaging platform is developing an enhancement known as WhatsApp Plus.
This new version is expected to offer unique updates and functionalities, such as the ability to pin more chats (increased from the current 3 to a more practical 20) and enhanced customization options like changing the app’s theme, icon, and accent colors.
Additionally, users might receive bonus stickers, access to extra ringtones, and more interactive reactions for chat replies. WABetaInfo explained, “WhatsApp is working on a new optional premium subscription called ‘WhatsApp Plus,’ which will provide additional features to users for a monthly fee. Currently in development for Android and iOS, it has not been officially released yet.”
In addition to the initial enhancements, Meta may introduce more features over time for users willing to pay. While WhatsApp has not officially confirmed these reports, test versions of the Plus app have been identified by WABetaInfo, indicating ongoing development.
It is important to note that the free version of WhatsApp will remain available, and users will not be obligated to subscribe. The premium subscription is aimed at offering extra benefits to users willing to pay a monthly fee.
Stay tuned for further updates on WhatsApp Plus. More information is expected to be released soon.
