Keir Starmer is set to chair a crucial meeting with allies as Donald Trump suggested that positive developments may be unfolding in Ukraine peace negotiations.

The Prime Minister will lead discussions of the coalition of willing nations, comprising over 30 countries dedicated to overseeing any peace agreement, on Tuesday. These nations have committed to ensuring Kyiv’s security if a deal is reached with Russia to halt the ongoing invasion.

Concerns arose over the weekend in Ukraine, the UK, and European capitals following the leak of a 28-point US peace plan aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine. The plan included significant concessions to Moscow, such as reducing Ukraine’s armed forces and relinquishing plans for NATO membership.

After key talks in Geneva on Sunday involving officials from Europe, Ukraine, and the US, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reported “tremendous” progress. He highlighted positive contributions towards the acceptance of the plan by both European and Ukrainian parties.

In a social media post, the US President also hinted at potential progress, expressing hope for positive developments in the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. Meanwhile, when asked about the prospects for progress in Ukraine, Mr. Starmer emphasized ongoing discussions in Geneva and the importance of achieving a just and enduring peace.

The PM’s official spokesperson mentioned that Keir Starmer appreciates the significant advancements made during the Geneva meetings. While acknowledging some outstanding issues, the spokesperson highlighted the joint effort of President Trump, President Zelensky, and their teams in advancing the peace process.
