EE mobile customers are being cautioned about a resurgence of a scam text message. Cybersecurity experts at Bitdefender have noted that some EE users are receiving urgent messages claiming they are at risk of losing numerous EE reward points unless immediate action is taken.

Bitdefender advised against falling for messages like “12,739 EE reward points expiring soon,” warning that such messages are likely scams. Scammers are exploiting the EE brand to trick individuals into clicking on malicious links that lead to fake websites aiming to steal personal information for fraudulent purposes.

The success of this scam relies on creating a sense of urgency to prompt quick actions from unsuspecting users. By setting tight deadlines, scammers manipulate individuals into feeling like they are about to lose something valuable. These fraudulent messages do not lead to legitimate EE platforms but redirect to deceptive websites.

Genuine alerts from EE will only appear within users’ official accounts and not through unsolicited texts. Users are advised to treat any message urging immediate action or presenting countdowns as suspicious and report such texts to 7726 before deleting them.

This type of scam has targeted EE customers previously, where users were lured by convincing fake messages about reward points. Some customers shared their experiences of unknowingly interacting with these scams, emphasizing the need for caution.

EE has explicitly stated that it does not run a points program and has highlighted examples of scam messages targeting users.
