Sky has recently released a significant update for its popular Glass TVs and Stream boxes, offering new features at no additional cost for users. The update, which started rolling out last week, includes the capability to manage Sky’s internet-connected devices using a smartphone and set reminders for programs listed in the TV guide.
The settings menu has been revamped for easier navigation, with added accessibility options like enhanced contrast controls for text and backgrounds within Sky applications. Sky stated, “Sky’s evolving operating system, Sky OS, has been enhanced to provide even smarter control options for Sky Glass and Stream customers.”
Owners of Sky Glass TV, Sky Glass Air device, or Sky Stream box can expect these features to be automatically installed without the need for manual adjustments or device restarts.
Notable enhancements include the ability to set reminders for favorite shows on all Sky Glass and Stream devices, eliminating the need to search for the remote when important programs are about to start. The update allows users to set reminders directly from the show page by selecting “Set a reminder,” triggering a notification at the show’s start time.
A new feature enables users to control the TV using the digital Sky remote app on iOS and Android devices, offering quick access to favorite shows, channel changes, and playback management with simple taps. The app also incorporates accessibility features such as screen reader support.
Sky has streamlined its settings for easier access, simplifying the process by pressing the three dots on the Sky remote and scrolling right. The quick access menu has been relocated for faster navigation to settings like picture and sound adjustments, parental controls, and accessibility options.
Furthermore, several new accessibility features have been introduced, including an enhanced voice guidance experience, high contrast settings in Sky apps, magnification mode for zooming up to 400%, and on-demand Audio Description for Sky content.
These updates aim to enhance user experience and accessibility for Sky Glass and Stream device owners, providing more control and customization options for an improved viewing experience.
