Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, known for his service as a helicopter co-pilot during the Falklands conflict, has been completely erased from the Falkland Islands, according to information uncovered by Mirror. Formerly recognized as Prince Andrew, he had been a prominent figure in the British overseas territory, attending various public events and opening numerous buildings. However, following his recent removal of royal titles by the King, all plaques bearing his name in the Falklands have now been taken down.
This development is likely another blow to Andrew, who was once hailed as a hero for his role in the 1982 conflict. Local resident Kaylee Smith expressed support for the removal, stating that Andrew’s actions had brought disgrace to his family and the nation he once represented.
Andrew, now 65, revisited the Falklands post-war to inaugurate the Mount Pleasant Airport. Despite the enthusiastic reception he received during the ceremony, including displays of support for Britain, all acknowledgments of his involvement have since been removed. Airport authorities confirmed the disassociation with Andrew following revelations of his association with Jeffrey Epstein.
In subsequent visits to the Falklands, Andrew was involved in opening additional structures, such as a block at the Infant Junior School in Stanley. However, his ties to these locations have been severed, with school officials confirming the removal of his plaque.
As a former patron of the Falklands Conservation trust, Andrew’s presence was also eradicated from the New Island environmental field station after his association with Epstein surfaced. Similarly, a tablet bearing his name at the Falklands KEMH Hospital was taken down in 2022 following legal dealings with Virginia Giuffre.
The removal of Andrew’s legacy from the Falklands reflects a broader trend of distancing from him. His fall from grace accelerated after allegations of sexual misconduct and his infamous Newsnight interview in 2019.
