Marie-Yasmine Alidou netted the decisive goal from a penalty kick in the 55th minute, propelling the Montreal Roses to a 2-0 victory over AFC Toronto in Northern Super League competition on Sunday. Elyse Bennett secured the win with her ninth goal of the season for the Roses, who secured the win in their first match with interim head coach Maryse Bard-Martel at the helm. Although Shelina Zadorsky appeared to level the score for Toronto in the 68th minute, her goal was disallowed due to an offside ruling.

Roses’ goalkeeper Anna Karpenko showcased her skills by facing 20 shots, with nine on target, and preserving a clean sheet. On the other end, Toronto’s goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo confronted seven shots, five of which were on target.

The victory came as the Roses regrouped following the dismissal of head coach Robert Rositoiu, who was let go after a surprising 1-0 defeat to semi-professional team Simcoe County in the W Canadian Championship.
