Markham is gearing up for an exciting weekend as it hosts the NTT IndyCar Series along with other motorsports events for the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy. Although IndyCar has a history in Toronto since 1986, this will be the first time the race is held outside the city on a brand-new track layout.

The event will feature a 3.52-kilometre, 12-turn course that runs through Unionville GO station grounds, York University Markham Campus, and the Markham Pan Am Centre. Attendees are encouraged to utilize GO Transit, York Region Transit, or take Highway 407 for transportation to the event, with parking available west of the venue.

To facilitate transportation, Metrolinx is adding extra trips on the Stouffville Line. Additionally, York Region Transit will increase its service frequency, and Markham is offering shuttle services between designated parking lots and the event venue.

Residents have been enduring various track construction impacts, including limited parking at Unionville GO and road closures on Enterprise Boulevard, Kennedy Road, YMCA Boulevard, University Boulevard, and South Unionville Boulevard until Monday morning. Some roads will remain affected until the track teardown is completed by August 27.

The highlight of the weekend is the IndyCar race on Sunday, with the green flag set for 12:22 p.m. ET. The current points leader, Spanish driver Alex Palou, is the favorite to win after an impressive season with multiple victories. Other notable drivers to watch include Pato O’Ward, Kyle Kirkwood, David Malukas, Christian Lundgaard, Rinus Veekay, and local talent like Anthony Martella and Chase Pelletier.

Drivers have commented on the unique Markham track layout, emphasizing the smooth surface and challenging elements, such as elevation changes and tight corners. Tickets for the event can be purchased for Saturday and Sunday, while Friday’s practice and qualifying sessions are free to attend, with donations encouraged for Make-A-Wish Canada.

The excitement is building for the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy in Markham, promising a thrilling weekend of racing action for enthusiasts and fans alike.
