“Get Winter-Ready: Tips for a Cozy, Energy-Efficient Home”

Published on

As the weather turns chilly, staying warm and cozy indoors becomes a top priority for many. Concerns about gas and electricity prices often arise, but implementing energy-efficient practices can help alleviate some of those worries.

Renowned organizer and television personality Dilly Carter shares some simple tasks you can tackle over the weekend to prepare your home for the colder season. One of the easiest steps, according to Dilly, is to start with a smart meter. By monitoring your energy usage and costs in real-time, you can identify areas where you can cut back.

Smart meters, provided by your energy supplier at no additional cost, offer a clear display showing your spending in pounds and pence as you use energy. When focusing on the living room, Dilly emphasizes the importance of preventing heat from escaping to reduce energy expenses.

To achieve this, Dilly suggests practical tips such as using draft excluders on doors, letterboxes, chimneys, and window seals. Additionally, investing in thicker curtains or adding inexpensive curtain liners can help retain heat lost through windows. Placing rugs on cold floors, especially over draughty floorboards, can provide additional insulation.

To ensure efficient heating, Dilly advises optimizing the use of central heating systems. Setting a heating timer to operate only when necessary and allowing the house sufficient time to warm up before use can help save energy. When it comes to lighting, Dilly recommends using lamps for a cozier ambiance and switching to energy-efficient LED bulbs to reduce lighting costs.

Dilly stresses that keeping your home warm during winter doesn’t have to be expensive. Simple actions like identifying and sealing draughts, ensuring proper radiator function, and being mindful of lighting usage can make a significant difference. By addressing these basics, you can enhance your home’s energy efficiency without the need for major investments in technology.

Remember, individual eligibility for certain measures may vary, and the smart meter display and cost figures provided are for illustration purposes only.
