“Christian Non-Profit Sues Moncton Over Concert Cancellation”

Published on

A non-profit organization with religious roots, established by an American Christian musician, is taking legal action against the city of Moncton after permits for a concert were revoked last year. Burn 24/7 Canada, founded by Sean Feucht, filed a notice of action in Moncton court on August 4, claiming that the city’s cancellation of the performance infringed on the organization’s freedom of expression rights. The organization alleges that the cancellation violated rights outlined in section 2(b) of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Sean Feucht, a Christian singer and missionary known for his controversial views on various social issues, had planned a concert in Moncton as part of his “Let Us Worship” tour. However, two days before the scheduled event in July 2025, the city revoked the necessary permits citing non-compliance with the city’s Code of Conduct and safety concerns related to potential protests.

Feucht’s organization asserts that the cancellation was unjustified and motivated by the perception of Feucht’s conservative Christian values and support for the former U.S. President. The group is seeking $50,000 in damages, claiming that the abrupt cancellation forced them to relocate the event to a different venue, incurring additional costs and resulting in a significant decrease in attendance and donations.

Despite the organization’s claims that they had complied with all city requirements and had security measures in place, the city of Moncton has refrained from commenting on the matter as it remains a legal issue. Feucht’s organization has faced similar challenges in other Canadian cities, including Quebec City, where a concert was also cancelled last year, leading to legal action. The group’s lawyer emphasized the importance of upholding free speech rights and preventing similar incidents in the future.

The dispute between Burn 24/7 Canada and the City of Moncton highlights the complexities surrounding freedom of expression, event planning, and differing viewpoints on social and political issues. The legal proceedings will determine the outcome of the lawsuit and the implications for both parties involved.
