“Britons Embrace Politeness with AI for Better Results”

Published on

A growing number of AI users are adopting a new behavior in hopes of achieving improved outcomes.

Many users are opting to interact politely with AI, treating it as if it were a human, believing it will yield better results.

According to a study by Talkmobile, three-quarters of adults make a habit of using phrases like “please” and “thank you” when engaging with ChatGPT or similar applications. Britons are increasingly dependent on AI, with the average individual asking a minimum of three questions daily.

The research, conducted by Talkmobile, reveals that younger individuals are leading by example in terms of politeness when interacting with virtual assistants like Siri or Gemini.

An impressive 91% of those aged 18 to 28 exhibit polite behavior towards AI, in stark contrast to only 25% of the older post-war generation who believe in the correlation between being courteous and the performance of AI software.

Conversely, older adults in Britain tend to show the least courtesy towards AI chatbots, with fewer than two-thirds (64%) of Baby Boomers being polite, as only 61% use phrases like “please” and “thank you”.

Furthermore, the post-war generation appears to have the least skepticism towards AI, with just 25% believing that politeness affects the software’s outcomes.

A survey of over 2,000 phone users found that one in five Britons now rely on AI rather than Google, with half of the population having ChatGPT or similar software installed on their phones.

Among Generation Z, 70% have utilized an AI bot, in contrast to only 26% of Baby Boomers. The primary reasons for turning to AI include explaining complex concepts (21%), fact-checking (21%), spell-checking (20%), and resolving IT issues (19%).

Talkmobile, a mobile operator, commissioned this study as part of its efforts to promote straightforward and uncomplicated technology that seamlessly integrates into daily life.

Stuart Wilson, a spokesman for Talkmobile, emphasized the importance of human interaction, stating that while AI can be beneficial for quick tasks, genuine human connections are irreplaceable, especially when customers require personalized support or advice.
