Statistics Canada has reported a significant influx of drivers crossing the Gordie Howe International Bridge into Canada during the initial days following its inauguration. The highly anticipated bridge, linking Windsor and Detroit, finally opened to traffic on July 27 after experiencing several weeks of delay. According to preliminary data from StatCan, there were approximately 18,900 return trips made by Canadian residents from the United States through the Gordie Howe bridge within the first five days of its operation. Concurrently, 18,100 U.S. residents entered Canada by crossing the same bridge during the same period. In comparison, the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel collectively recorded 52,700 inbound trips by both Canadian and U.S. residents in that time frame. Additionally, StatCan noted that 4,100 commercial transport trucks entered Canada via the Gordie Howe bridge in the final five days of July.
