The music industry is abuzz as the iconic queen of pop, Madonna, dominates the nominations for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. Surpassing even Taylor Swift, Madonna has secured a remarkable 11 nominations for the upcoming ceremony, including nods for artist and video of the year, all attributed to her hit album “Confessions II” and its accompanying film.
Taylor Swift, a highly acclaimed solo artist at the VMAs, follows Madonna with nine nominations for her album “The Life of a Showgirl” and the music video “The Fate of Ophelia.” Not far behind are Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande, each receiving seven nominations.
This isn’t Madonna’s first rodeo at the VMAs; she previously led the nominations in 1990 and 1998 with her “Vogue” and “Ray of Light” eras. Her legacy at the awards is cemented by her unforgettable performance at the inaugural 1984 ceremony, where she pushed the boundaries of cable television with a daring rendition of “Like a Virgin” in a wedding dress and “Boy Toy” belt buckle.
Among Madonna’s numerous nominations are nods for video of the year, artist of the year, and song and collaboration of the year for “Bring Your Love,” featuring fellow nominee Sabrina Carpenter. The highly anticipated video of the year category includes competition from Taylor Swift’s “Ophelia,” Ariana Grande’s “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Tears,” Bruno Mars’s “I Just Might,” and Gener8ion and Yung Lean’s “Storm.”
For this year’s VMAs, the public can vote in 13 categories. The winners will be revealed during the live broadcast on September 27, airing on CBS, MTV, and streaming on Paramount+.
