Six young individuals tragically lost their lives in a car accident that resulted in a fire near the US Embassy in Lisbon. The victims, comprising three boys and three girls aged between 18 and 20, are believed to have perished in the flames after the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle during the early morning hours.
The authorities were alerted around 3:40 am local time. Reports indicate that the driver of the charred BMW may have lost control due to a distraction, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and ignite. According to local news sources, although the car had five seats, it was carrying four passengers in the back seat.
There is no indication of any other vehicles being involved in the incident. The tragic event took place on Armed Forces Avenue in the Sete-Rios area of Lisbon. Firefighters and police, who are conducting an investigation, remained at the scene as daylight broke. The nationalities of the deceased have not been disclosed yet.
Belongings of the passengers inside the car were reportedly destroyed by the fire. The area has been cordoned off while authorities continue their work at the site.
