Alexandra Palace has secured the hosting rights for the PDC World Darts Championship until 2031 under a new five-year agreement. This announcement puts an end to speculations about a potential relocation of the event within London or outside of England.

Beginning from the 2026/27 season, the tournament will be relocated to the Great Hall, which can accommodate approximately 180,000 spectators. This marks a significant increase from the previous capacity, allowing each session to host over 5,000 fans.

Since 2007, Alexandra Palace has been the home of the World Darts Championship. PDC chief executive Matt Porter expressed excitement about extending the partnership, emphasizing the venue’s association with the tournament. The move to the Great Hall is expected to enhance the event’s atmosphere and cater to the growing demand for tickets.

The decision to transition to the larger venue comes ahead of this year’s championship, where Luke Littler will defend his title against Darius Labanauskas. As part of the agreement, the Matchroom Charitable Foundation will continue supporting Alexandra Palace’s Creative Learning Programme with a commitment of £300,000 over three years for various community initiatives.

In a recent statement, Littler reiterated his preference for keeping the Championship at Alexandra Palace, expressing reluctance to participate in any potential relocation to Saudi Arabia. The World Series is set to debut in Saudi Arabia in January, with top players like Littler and Luke Humphries expected to compete.

While the decision to ban alcohol sales at the Saudi Arabian venue garnered mixed reactions, the Series will continue with events in multiple countries, including Bahrain, Denmark, the US, New Zealand, Australia, and the Netherlands.

The PDC World Darts Championship is scheduled to kick off on December 11, with exclusive live coverage available through Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle.
