High-speed internet has become a crucial aspect of daily life, supporting activities like streaming entertainment, remote work, home security through connected devices, and smart home control. The demand for fast and reliable broadband has surged as households integrate more internet-connected gadgets and consume increasing online content. However, not all internet service providers (ISPs) deliver the same level of performance.

According to SpeedGo’s data, Virgin Media leads the UK with an impressive average download speed of 256.5Mbps, allowing users to download a full HD movie in just over two minutes, significantly faster than the national average.
Following Virgin Media, Vodafone ranks second with average download speeds of 175Mbps, while BT (EE) holds the third spot. TalkTalk lags behind with an average speed of approximately 95Mbps.
The average download speeds of major UK ISPs are as follows:
– Virgin Media: 256.5Mbps
– Vodafone: 175.1Mbps
– BT (EE): 122.5Mbps
– Sky Broadband: 113.6Mbps
– TalkTalk: 94.7Mbps
Aside from download speeds, SpeedGo also examined upload speeds, crucial for users dealing with large file transfers or remote work. Vodafone excelled in this category with an average upload speed of 83.6Mbps, surpassing Virgin Media, which ranked second with 47.2Mbps.
SpeedGo affirms these results, stating, “Virgin Media led the UK in 2025 with an average download speed of 256.5Mbps, while Vodafone achieved the highest average upload speed at 83.6Mbps.”
