“Freely Surges Past One Million Weekly Users in UK”

Published on

Freely, a relatively new player in the UK, is making waves with its recent success. Launched in 2024, the free streaming service has hit a significant milestone by exceeding one million weekly users. This surge in users, which occurred over the festive Christmas period, represents rapid growth, with a doubling of users compared to September last year.

This achievement now positions Freely as the fastest-growing TV platform in the UK for 2025.

Jonathan Thompson, CEO of Everyone TV, expressed excitement about surpassing the one million weekly user mark, highlighting the strong demand for a convenient platform offering live British TV streaming and a vast array of on-demand shows in one place.

He noted that Freely’s status as the fastest-growing TV platform in 2025 underscores the collaboration among the UK’s public service broadcasters to make high-quality British TV content easily accessible for streaming. The momentum gained in 2026 reflects a promising start, with a focus on showcasing the nation’s favorite channels and stories in the streaming era.

Although Freely still trails behind Sky and Freeview in terms of scale, the shift towards streaming and the trend away from expensive subscriptions may expedite its growth and help narrow the gap quicker than anticipated.

Operated by the team behind Freeview, Freely stands out by functioning solely over a broadband connection rather than relying on an aerial setup, ensuring a swift and simple installation process.

Freely offers various features such as live TV pause, personalized recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, a mini guide, and a unique backwards guide that enables viewers to rewind through schedules.

Initially accessible on a limited range of TVs, Freely is now compatible with a wide selection of models from renowned brands like Hisense, Panasonic, Bush, and Sharp.

For those eager to embrace this streaming revolution, there’s good news as the Pleio streaming puck is now available, providing access to Freely on nearly any TV. More set-top devices are anticipated to launch in the near future, potentially expanding Freely’s market share even further.
