Sky and Virgin Media TV customers will notice a reduction in available channels starting tomorrow, including some popular music services. The decision to remove several MTV stations was initially announced in October, and now there is only one day left to enjoy these iconic channels. The updated TV schedule reveals that MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV, and MTV Live will all stop airing on December 31.

Users checking the TV planner to see upcoming programs will be greeted with a message stating, “This channel is now closed.”

The shift towards streaming has led to a decline in traditional TV viewership, resulting in the discontinuation of MTV after nearly four decades of music television broadcasting. Many people now prefer platforms like YouTube and social apps such as TikTok for their music content.

According to sources speaking to The Sun, MTV has suffered due to the rising popularity of streaming services. The source described it as a somber day for the music industry, highlighting how MTV has diminished from its former influential status.

In addition to the UK, reports suggest that MTV services in parts of Asia, Australia, and Latin America are also being terminated.

Although the music-focused channels are being closed, MTV HD will remain accessible, offering reality shows like Naked Dating UK and Geordie Shore.

MTV has played a significant role in shaping youth culture and launching music and TV careers since its inception in 1981, revolutionizing the music consumption, marketing, and visualization landscape.

Apart from MTV, four children’s TV channels – Pop, Tiny Pop, Pop+1, and Tiny Pop+1 – are set to be permanently removed from the listings by the end of the year.

In total, nine channels will no longer be available on Sky and Virgin Media TV platforms.
