A 21-year-old woman is in critical condition at Liverpool Hospital after a car she was riding in was involved in a collision during a police pursuit in Sydney’s south-west on December 10. The female driver, also 21, and another woman in the vehicle were hospitalized with serious injuries.
New South Wales Police reported that they spotted a Ford Ranger allegedly speeding through a red light while on patrol. After the driver failed to stop, officers initiated a pursuit, which was quickly ended due to safety concerns.
Following the incident, an investigation was launched by New South Wales Police into the crash that occurred after the pursuit was terminated. The Ford Ranger allegedly ran another red light and collided with a BMW sedan and a Toyota Yaris hatchback at an intersection.
Emergency services treated the critically injured woman at the scene before transferring her to Liverpool Hospital. The other occupants of the vehicles involved were also taken to the hospital for treatment. The 17-year-old male driver of the stolen Ford Ranger, which was reported stolen the previous week, was taken to Fairfield Hospital for evaluation.
Authorities have established Strike Force Bennington to investigate the circumstances of the incident. The case will undergo independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversight by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
