The Canadian beach volleyball team consisting of Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson clinched the bronze medal at the Montreal Elite16 tournament held in their home country. The duo, who won silver at the 2024 Olympics, staged a remarkable comeback against Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann, winning with scores of 20-22, 21-12, and 18-16 to secure their spot on the podium.
Wilkerson was the standout performer, contributing 32 attack points, 5 block points, and a crucial serve point, while Humana-Paredes added 9 attack points. The match had to be paused due to a weather interruption before resuming.
Earlier in the day, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson suffered a defeat in the semifinals to Brazil’s Thamela Galil and Victoria Tosta, ending their quest for a three-peat. However, they bounced back to face Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann for the bronze medal match.
Having previously won the Montreal titles in 2023 and 2025, with an Olympic silver medal in between at the Paris Games, the Canadian duo showcased their competitive spirit on their home turf.
In the men’s category, Canada’s Sam Schachter and Jonathan Pickett staged a comeback to secure a bronze medal victory over Norway’s Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen. Despite dropping the opening set, they rallied to win the next two sets, 28-26 and 15-12, securing their first podium finish together in front of the home crowd.
Their journey included an upset victory over the top-ranked team, Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson, in the FIVB Beach Pro Tour event, leading them to the semifinals where they narrowly lost to Brazil’s Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho and André Loyola Stein.
The Canadian team’s performance was a testament to their determination and skill, captivating the audience and earning well-deserved recognition on the international beach volleyball stage.
