Canadian athlete Marco Arop secured a fourth-place finish in the Diamond League track and field competition held at Stade Olympique de la Pontaise in Lausanne, Switzerland. Arop took an early lead and led the pack for most of the race but couldn’t maintain the pace in the final 400 meters, crossing the finish line with a time of 1:43.18.
The event was won by Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi with a time of 1:42.19, followed by Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati in second place clocking a season-best time of 1:42.31. American athlete Brandon Miller claimed the third spot with a time of 1:42.55.
Last year, Arop and shot putter Sarah Mitton were the sole Canadians to qualify for the Diamond League Final in Zurich, both finishing third. Arop, who was ranked second in the men’s 800m Diamond League standings behind Wanyonyi before the competition, was in a favorable position to secure a spot in the Final.
The 2026 Wanda Diamond League Final is scheduled to take place on September 4–5 in Brussels, Belgium.
In the men’s 200m event, reigning Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo from Botswana triumphed with a time of 19.87 seconds. Sinesipho Dambile of South Africa finished second in 19.98 seconds, followed by Makanakaishe Charamba from Zimbabwe in third with a time of 20.14 seconds.
American sprinter Kayla White clinched victory in the women’s 200m race with a time of 22.18 seconds. The second and third positions were closely contested, with Amy Hunt from Great Britain narrowly beating Nigeria’s Favour Ofili, both clocking 22.32 seconds. Jamaican athlete Shericka Jackson, a two-time women’s world champion, suffered an injury during the race and had to be assisted off the track in a wheelchair.
