Kiki Iriafen and Shakira Austin showcased stellar performances as the Washington Mystics triumphed over the undermanned Toronto Tempo with a 93-82 victory on Wednesday evening, securing their eighth consecutive win at home.

With this defeat, the Tempo (10-25) have been officially ruled out of playoff contention in their debut season. Austin recorded her 16th double-double of the season, while Iriafen notched her 15th, contributing to Washington’s dominant 43-27 rebounding advantage over Toronto. Iriafen was particularly efficient, shooting 8 of 12 from the field.

In addition to Iriafen and Austin’s standout performances, Michaela Onyenwere impressed with 14 points, including four 3-pointers, for the Mystics (21-14). Sonia Citron also made significant contributions with 13 points and six assists. Washington’s strong inside presence was evident as they scored 38 points in the paint, narrowly missing their 12th consecutive game with 40 or more points in the paint.

Despite the absence of their top scorers Marina Mabrey, Brittney Sykes, and Nyara Sabally for the second game of a back-to-back, Kiki Rice led the way for Toronto with 19 points. Aneesah Morrow added 13 points and eight rebounds, but it was not enough to prevent the expansion Tempo from suffering their 12th consecutive loss.

Washington took control of the game in the second quarter, embarking on a 12-0 run to establish a 37-24 lead as Toronto struggled to find their shooting rhythm. The Mystics continued their dominance in the second quarter, outscoring the Tempo 22-9 to enter halftime with a 47-33 advantage.

Onyenwere’s consecutive three-pointers in the third quarter extended Washington’s lead to 60-42, firmly putting the Mystics in control of the game.

Looking ahead, the Tempo will host Portland on Friday, while the Mystics are set to face Minnesota at home on the same day.
