U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, has strongly criticized the Israeli settlers’ siege on a Palestinian American family’s residence in the Israeli-occupied West Bank as a “horrific act of terror.” Reports indicate that since Sunday, settlers have been gathering near the home in the village of Qusra, harassing its occupants despite efforts by the Israeli military to intervene.

A group of settlers, consisting of numerous men, has engaged in aggressive actions such as throwing stones, attempting to dismantle a nearby stone wall, and preventing the family from leaving the house, leading to a shortage of essential supplies. The family, including Qusai Abu Rida and his teenage son, had sought refuge in the house but were later relocated by the Israeli military to another residence, although they remain confined to the area.

The situation escalated over the past few days, with settlers besieging the house and obstructing the supply of essential goods, as stated by the homeowner, Loui Ridi, from Ohio. Huckabee condemned the actions of the settlers, describing them as acts of terror aimed at intimidating and harassing the family.

Qusra Mayor Abed Al Athem Wadi reported that Israeli soldiers had evacuated six homes in the village, including three hilltop residences that were besieged. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) denounced the actions targeting residents and their properties, with the Canadian government also condemning the expansion of settlements in the West Bank as a violation of international law.

Following the unrest, the Israeli military intervened to restore order by dismantling illegal outposts in the vicinity of Qusra and detaining one Israeli individual. Despite condemnation from various parties, settlers have persisted in their actions, prompting concerns over increased violence in the region.

The ongoing violence in Qusra has drawn attention to the contentious issue of West Bank settlements, with Palestinians advocating for the area as part of a future state and settlers asserting historical, religious, and security reasons for Israeli control.
