“Canadian Flag Football Star Aims for Olympic Glory”

Sabrina Gervais, a mother, healthcare professional, and seasoned flag football player, is aiming to add an Olympic achievement to her impressive list of accomplishments. Leading Canada’s national women’s team at the 2026 world championship, Gervais and her teammates are not only vying for a gold medal but also a spot in the 2028 Los Angeles Games, marking the debut of flag football at the Olympics.

Expressing her excitement, Gervais shared, “It would be fulfilling a dream I never thought possible. The prospect of the Olympics never crossed my mind before, but now that it’s within reach, I believe in our chances if we maintain our health and continue to lead the team effectively.”

The International Federation of American Football (IFAF) world championship kicks off in Düsseldorf, Germany, with Canada set to face Panama and Brazil before taking on Japan. The top two teams will secure Olympic berths, while the United States, being the host nation, already has a guaranteed spot in Los Angeles.

Although the world championship is a crucial qualifying event, failing to secure a spot in Germany would mean participating in subsequent qualifying events in the lead-up to the 2028 Olympics. Canada’s strong performance in previous competitions positions them as a formidable contender for the gold in Germany.

With Gervais playing a pivotal role, Canada’s women’s flag football team is not a stranger to success, having won a bronze medal at the 2025 World Games. Despite gaining recognition for their achievements, Gervais remains focused on giving her best performance on the field and supporting her team.

Balancing her football career with motherhood and a full-time job as an osteopath and kinesiologist, Gervais emphasizes the importance of resilience, patience, and self-care. She highlights the significance of rest, healthy habits, and proper nutrition in maintaining peak performance and staying injury-free.

Acknowledging the support from her family and coach, Rachel Lessard, Gervais values the team’s chemistry and unity as their greatest strengths. Emphasizing the importance of teamwork over individual talent, she believes that their cohesive approach sets them apart from other competitors.

Looking ahead, Gervais remains focused on the present, taking each day as it comes without getting ahead of herself. While she enjoys the game and aims to make a positive impact both on and off the field, Gervais remains committed to showcasing her capabilities and inspiring the next generation of players.
