Dolly Parton’s remarkable journey from humble beginnings to fame has inspired her music, a theme park, a podcast, and now a Broadway-bound musical set to debut later this year. Titled “Dolly: A True Original Musical,” the production promises an authentic portrayal of Parton’s life in her own words and through her iconic songs.

In a video announcement, the 80-year-old singer assured that the musical would stay true to her experiences. She emphasized that the show would delve into her real struggles and triumphs, offering a glimpse into her personal journey.

The musical will feature a mix of new compositions created specifically for the production and some of Parton’s greatest hits, including “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “9 to 5.” Performances are scheduled to commence in New York City on December 7 this year, running until November 21, 2027.

Parton expressed her excitement, calling the opportunity a dream come true as she nears her seventh decade in the music industry. With over 3,000 songs to her credit and more than 100 million albums sold worldwide, Parton is a revered figure in both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame.

The musical originally premiered in Nashville last summer to a sold-out audience at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. Director Bartlett Sher remarked on the profound connection audiences have with Dolly, highlighting her ability to inspire and bring joy to people’s lives.

The show promises a candid portrayal of Parton’s life, going beyond the glitz and glamour to showcase the depth of her experiences. Tickets for the Broadway production will be available to the public starting on Friday, July 10.
