The Vancouver Rise have received reinforcements with the recent signing of two defenders. These additions come just in time for a crucial match against the Halifax Tides this weekend. Chantelle Swaby, formerly with Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, previously with NSL side AFC Toronto, have joined the Rise to strengthen the team.
Head coach Anja Heiner-Moller praised the attributes that both players bring to the team, emphasizing Swaby’s physicality and confidence in play and Hansen’s eagerness to contribute and adapt to the team’s style of play. Swaby, 28, brings a wealth of experience from playing in various leagues around the world, showcasing her composure in high-pressure game situations.
For Hansen, 26, joining the Rise means a return to her hometown of Burnaby, B.C., allowing her to perform in front of a familiar crowd and be close to her family again. These signings come after the departure of Mariah Lee, who retired last month to pursue a law degree in New York.
In another move, Vancouver loaned goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan to the Tides for the remainder of the season. The Rise, currently at 5-9-1, are aiming to secure a playoff spot as they trail Halifax by five points. Forward Jessica De Fillippo emphasized the team’s commitment to reaching the playoffs and showcasing their competitiveness to fans and the league.
