Trump Plans Broad Travel Ban Expansion: 30+ Countries Included

Reports suggest that Donald Trump is getting ready to broaden the scope of a travel restriction on individuals entering the United States to encompass more than 30 countries.

This development coincides with the decision by the White House to halt all immigration applications from 19 countries and cancel citizenship ceremonies nationwide, citing concerns about national security.

In the past, Trump imposed a ban on 19 countries, most of which were associated with African or Muslim-majority nations such as Afghanistan, Iran, and Libya.

Now, he is planning to include 11 additional countries in what is being termed as one of the most comprehensive travel bans in history. Citizens from Afghanistan, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Myanmar, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen are already prohibited from entering the United States under the new regulations that took effect on June 9.

The proclamation also imposes partial restrictions on foreign nationals from seven more countries – Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela – from entering the US.

These bans are part of a series of anti-immigration measures introduced by Trump, which also involve preventing individuals from crossing the southern border to seek asylum and directing heavily armed ICE immigration officers to conduct raids across the nation.

While Trump has not officially commented on the matter, Secretary of State Kristi Noem hinted at an expanded “full travel ban,” suggesting on social media that she recommended increasing the number of countries on the restricted list during a meeting with the President.

Noem proposed the inclusion of “every single country that has been inundating our nation with criminals, freeloaders, and entitlement seekers” on the list.

“Our ancestors constructed this nation through sacrifice, hard work, and a steadfast commitment to liberty — not for foreign intruders to harm our heroes, drain our tax resources, or usurp the benefits intended for AMERICANS,” remarked the DHS chief. “WE REJECT THEM. NOT A SINGLE ONE.”

Previously, Trump criticized former President Joe Biden for allowing unchecked migrants to enter America.

During his initial term, Trump was explicit about his intention to bar individuals from nations where Islam is the predominant religion. This led to the implementation of a travel ban against people from seven Muslim-majority countries attempting to enter the US.
