Tammara Thibeault: Canada’s Fastest Ring Magazine Champion

Published on

Tammara Thibeault’s boxing journey has been about staying focused on the present moment. When her most significant professional moment arrived on August 8, she tackled it one round at a time. It wasn’t until a few days later, holding the belts, that the reality sunk in for the 29-year-old from Shawinigan, Quebec.

Thibeault emerged victorious in Orlando, Florida, defeating Desley Robinson of Australia by unanimous decision with all judges scoring the fight 100-90. This victory marked Thibeault as the first Canadian woman to achieve a unified professional world champion title, merging Robinson’s IBF and WBO middleweight titles with the Ring Magazine belt.

Achieving this milestone in only five professional fights set a new record, making Thibeault the fastest fighter in history to win a Ring Magazine world championship. Her ability to maintain focus and composure played a crucial role, especially when she faced adversity during the fight due to a headbutt that caused significant bleeding.

After this remarkable win, Thibeault reflected on her journey, which included a return to Olympic-style boxing while continuing her professional career. She clinched a Canadian amateur title in November and secured a silver medal at the Boxing World Cup in Guiyang, China. Training in Belfast alongside national-team boxers from India and New Zealand provided her with diverse sparring opportunities against different styles, enhancing her adaptability in the ring.

Thibeault expressed her enjoyment of the creative freedom that professional boxing offers, particularly highlighting the opportunity to showcase her personality through unique outfits. Despite her recent success, she remains focused on her goal of competing in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, acknowledging the need to earn her spot on the podium.

The overwhelming support and positive reactions to Thibeault’s victory have been humbling for her, emphasizing the impact she has had on aspiring young athletes. As she prepares for the upcoming Pan American championships in Pueblo, Mexico, Thibeault emphasizes the importance of rest and recovery before taking on new challenges.

While the titles may have elevated her status in the boxing world, Thibeault’s approach remains unchanged – facing each challenge one step at a time. With her eyes set on future accomplishments, Thibeault’s journey continues with determination and unwavering focus.
