A recent study by Uswitch has revealed that the surge in streaming and internet usage during the summer is leading to a congestion in broadband services. Approximately 9.4 million people in the UK are experiencing slower internet speeds due to the heightened demand.
The research conducted by Uswitch found that 32% of individuals encounter more frequent broadband issues as temperatures rise. The study also identified Edinburgh as the city most affected, with 26% of residents experiencing decreased speeds, followed by London and Plymouth at 23%, and then Leeds and Sheffield.
Conversely, Cardiff and Bristol appear to be receiving more reliable broadband services. According to Ernest Doku, Uswitch’s broadband expert, users facing slow speeds should conduct a speed test to ensure they are receiving the promised speeds within their package. Providers are expected to deliver a minimum guaranteed speed for broadband services, particularly for superfast broadband products based on the line’s capacity directly to the user’s location.
To enhance internet performance during this high-demand period, users are advised to follow these recommended steps to optimize their broadband connectivity.
