A residence in Manchester was struck by a large tree during the tumultuous weather caused by Storm Claudia in the UK. The incident led to the evacuation of residents in Bollington, Cheshire, after another tree fell, damaging properties and causing power outages. Transportation in the region was also disrupted as fallen trees affected train and Metrolink services.
As Storm Claudia continues to impact the area, the Met Office issued Amber flood warnings for multiple UK regions. Additional warnings were issued for Wales, Yorkshire, Humber, East Midlands, and Lincolnshire as the storm progresses. The weather agency predicted persistent heavy rain with accumulations of 40-60 mm, potentially reaching 80 mm in some areas.
Due to the forecast of high-speed winds and severe weather conditions, Lapland Manchester closed for public safety. Three flood alerts are now active in the region, including areas near the River Mersey, Bramhall, Stockport, Sale, Altrincham, Urmston, and the River Bollin catchment covering Knutsford, Wilmslow, Macclesfield, and Bollington. The alerts warn of possible flooding in low-lying areas near rivers and tributaries.
Specific locations at risk of flooding include lands and roads around Rivers Bollin, Dean, Pedley, Birkin, Mobberley Brooks, and their tributaries, particularly affecting Knutsford, Wilmslow, Hale, Macclesfield, and Bollington.
