“Snow Alert: Oxfordshire Braces for Wintry Spell”

Published on

Today, snow is expected to reach as far south as Oxfordshire amidst an ongoing cold spell.

The Met Office has issued various weather alerts, including warnings for snow, with predictions of up to eight inches falling over a two-day period. This wintry weather will create hazardous driving conditions throughout the week due to untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths.

According to the Met Office website, snow showers could lead to disruptions and icy conditions, especially with rainfall and hill snow on subzero surfaces.

Ventusky’s weather maps, utilizing data from Metdesk, suggest that snowfall is probable in Oxfordshire today, although it is expected to be less severe compared to Scotland and northern parts of England.

Areas like the Chiltern Hills in the Home Counties are likely to experience light snowfall, while parts of Suffolk in the East of England may also see minor accumulations of snow.

The most severe weather is anticipated in Scotland today, where transport and infrastructure disruptions are expected. The Met Office warns of significant snowfall reaching heights of 2-10cm in some areas.

Wednesday’s forecast is particularly grim along the east coast of England, with up to eight inches of snow projected for parts of Humberside, North Yorkshire, and the Northeast of England. Scotland is also expected to face similar snow levels on Wednesday, according to the Met Office.

Other forecasters predict snow in places like Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire today. However, the locations mentioned above are likely to experience the heaviest snowfall and have been issued weather warnings accordingly.

Chief Forecaster Paul Gundersen from the Met Office has highlighted the risk of icy conditions due to scattered showers in Scotland and the potential for snowfall in higher elevations, potentially causing travel disruptions.
