Sky Q, known for its exceptional set-top box capabilities, is highly praised for its live TV recording, premium channel access, on-demand content, and streaming apps like Disney+ and Netflix. Despite its popularity, Sky is shifting focus to internet-based products such as the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV. This transition may pave the way for a new competitor in the market.
Humax has introduced the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a device that emulates many features of Sky Q. Similar to Sky’s flagship product, the Aura EZ includes a 2TB hard drive for storing TV shows, movies, and sports events. The availability of physical recording options with internal storage is a significant highlight as such features are becoming less common.
Beyond aerial recordings, the Aura EZ is powered by Freely, enabling live TV viewing over broadband. Developed by the Freeview team, Freely offers over 60 live channels and a vast library of on-demand content. This setup allows for easy relocation of the box between rooms, simple installation, and regular feature updates.
Noteworthy features of the Aura EZ include 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and an integrated TV guide displaying current and upcoming programs. Users can control the box remotely via the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, facilitating schedule browsing and recording management from anywhere.
While Freely may not match Sky’s premium sports and movie offerings, it is a free service without subscription fees. The Humax Aura EZ is scheduled for a February 2026 launch in the UK, with a recommended retail price of £249.
In related news, Sky has announced a new subscription bundle combining major streaming services at a reduced monthly rate. Priced at £24 per month, customers gain access to Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and the upcoming HBO Max. The bundle is designed to provide value by consolidating multiple streaming platforms under one subscription. Sky Cinema customers will benefit from a new Disney movie channel integrated into the TV guide. The £24 bundle comprises Netflix Standard with Ads, Disney+ Standard with Ads (starting March), HBO Max Basic with Ads (from March 26), Hayu (from July, with selected content available from March), and over 130 Sky channels.
