“Single Mother Sentenced to 20 Years for Murder of Australian Brothers in Mexico”

Published on

A mother who is raising her child alone has been sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in prison for the suspected murder of two Australian brothers and their friend in Mexico.

Callum, aged 33, and Jake, aged 30, Robinson, along with their friend Jack Carter Rhoad, aged 30, went missing during a surfing trip in Baja, Mexico, on April 27 last year. Their bodies were later found at the bottom of a well, along with a fourth unidentified body.

Ari Gisell, a 23-year-old single mother and former partner of Jesús Gerardo, has been accused of murder along with two other individuals. According to reports, Gisell expressed interest in the tires of the car the Robinson brothers and Rhoad were driving, indicating to her then-boyfriend that she desired them.

Prosecutors alleged that Jesús Gerardo, accompanied by Irineo Francisco and Ángel Jesús, came across the Robinsons and Rhoad after dropping off Gisell at her residence. The trio then followed the tourists to their camping site, where they reportedly robbed and fatally shot them.

During the court proceedings, Debra Robinson, the mother of Callum and Jake, lamented the loss of her sons, stating that their futures had been unjustly taken away. She described the profound emptiness and sorrow caused by their absence.

Natalie Weirtz, the widow of Carter Rhoad, and his mother, Page, attended the court session virtually. Weirtz emotionally expressed her devastation, calling Rhoad the love of her life and her source of security, now describing her life as a nightmare.

Gisell was reported to have wept while listening to the heart-wrenching testimonies and later offered a remorseful statement. She acknowledged her actions, expressing regret and stating her commitment to personal growth. Gisell admitted her culpability, apologizing for the losses suffered by the victims’ families.

Gisell has confessed to her crimes and received a 14-year prison term for violent vehicle robbery, in addition to six years for robbery with violence. She has also been fined 54,285 Mexican pesos (£2,258).

Jesús Gerardo, Irineo Francisco, and Ángel Jesús have been charged with aggravated homicide in connection with the deaths of the Robinson brothers and Rhoad. They have yet to enter formal pleas, and a trial date has not been set.

Authorities are actively searching for another suspected murderer linked to the case, whose identity has been withheld from the public.
