“Sausage Recall: Allergic Reaction Risk Sparks Store Shelf Removal”

Published on

Sausages are being removed from store shelves due to concerns that they may cause severe allergic reactions in certain individuals who consume them.

The Jolly Hog is conducting a recall of its Leek Porkers sausages from Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, and Morrisons in response to a notification from the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

The FSA mentioned that the sausages are being recalled because they contain milk, which is not listed on the product label. This poses a potential health risk for individuals with milk allergies or intolerances.

Allergic reactions to milk can vary in symptoms, with severe cases possibly leading to anaphylaxis, a life-threatening response that may include a sudden drop in blood pressure, throat swelling, and loss of consciousness.

The specific product affected by the recall is The Jolly Hog Leek Porkers 6 British Sausages, weighing 400g, with a use-by date of September 28, 2025.

The company advised consumers with a milk allergy not to consume the product and instructed them to return it to the nearest store for a full refund. They expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and appreciated customers’ cooperation.

The FSA regularly issues health alerts for product recalls to inform consumers about potential risks such as missing allergy information or contamination.

Point-of-sale notices are being displayed to inform customers about the reason for the recall and what actions to take if they have purchased the product.

For additional information, consumers can contact customer care at info@thejollyhog.com. The manufacturer has been advised by the government to reach out to allergy support organizations to update their members about the incident.

Cow’s milk allergies are a common cause of allergic reactions in children across the UK, with even small amounts capable of triggering severe responses in sensitive individuals.

The FSA emphasized that foods are often recalled or withdrawn if allergen information is inaccurate, missing, or misleading, regardless of the product’s overall safety for most people.
