A 69-year-old woman, Maria Rubalcava de Ruesga, who had previously overcome pancreatic cancer, tragically lost her life in a devastating accident involving a garbage truck in Santa Ana, California. The incident occurred on West Bishop Street just after 7 am on a Wednesday, witnessed by children and families from the nearby Pio Pico Elementary School. Responding to multiple calls, authorities, including the Orange County Fire Authority, arrived at the scene to find that the truck had struck Ms. de Ruesga on a roundabout as she was crossing the road.
The driver of the garbage truck remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Sadly, Ms. de Ruesga was pronounced dead at the scene. She had been in remission from pancreatic cancer for a year after a successful battle with the disease. A GoFundMe campaign was initiated to assist with the funeral expenses, with donations exceeding $7,100 by Sunday evening.
The campaign described Maria as someone who had recently regained her health after the cancer battle and emphasized the shock and sadness her sudden passing had caused. The fundraiser aims to provide her with a dignified farewell and requested support through donations or sharing the campaign page during this difficult time. The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support.
