Ofcom has launched a new tool called Map Your Mobile to help smartphone users find the best network signal in their area. By entering their postcode, consumers can see which mobile operator offers the best performance. The tool, which incorporates crowdsourced and predictive data, aims to provide accurate information tailored to modern needs such as gaming, video streaming, and mobile work.
Natalie Black, Ofcom’s Group Director for Networks and Communications, emphasized the importance of choosing the right network for individual locations to optimize data and call quality. The tool encourages users to check not only their home but also their work address and commute route for network performance. If a different network appears to be better, switching may be a beneficial option.
Telecoms Minister Sir Chris Bryant highlighted the significance of reliable mobile coverage for economic growth and overall connectivity. The tool aims to bridge the gap between coverage reports and real user experiences, empowering consumers to make informed decisions about their network provider. By providing postcode-level information, Map Your Mobile offers users the ability to choose the network that best suits their needs in various settings.
