“NFL Defends Eagles’ Handling of Hurts’s Blood Clots”

Published on

The NFL has strongly supported the Philadelphia Eagles’ management of quarterback Jalen Hurts’s blood clots, while the players’ union has called for an investigation into the matter. An individual familiar with the situation confirmed that the Eagles were not facing any disciplinary action for their handling of Hurts. Dr. Allen Sills, the NFL’s chief medical officer, defended the Eagles’ approach to treating Hurts, stating that the team’s medical staff exhibited caution and diligence throughout the process. The NFL Players Association stated that no review was planned by the league and emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation to ensure player safety in the future.

Hurts, who is currently on injured reserve, is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to a blood clot that traveled from his left calf to his lungs. NFL executive vice president Jeff Miller refuted reports claiming Hurts went without sleep for an extended period before playing, asserting that Hurts had sufficient rest before the game. Sills mentioned that the league and the players’ union regularly monitor and study cases of blood clots, emphasizing the importance of considering various factors when treating such conditions.

Vascular surgeon Dr. Caron Rockman commended the Eagles for their handling of Hurts’s condition, noting that it was a judgment call based on the circumstances. Hurts’s treatment moving forward involves blood thinners, and he will be sidelined from football activities until he completes the treatment. Despite the challenges, both medical professionals and league officials are confident in the caution and care exercised in managing Hurts’s health over football considerations.
