Mercedes’ head of communications has revealed that the team’s principal, Toto Wolff, has been maintaining communication with former driver Lewis Hamilton to provide assistance during a challenging period at Ferrari. The seven-time world champion has been struggling to adjust to his new team, facing issues with car performance and race strategies.
Hamilton’s difficulties were highlighted at the recent Qatar Grand Prix where he faced setbacks in qualifying and finished outside the points in the race, currently holding the sixth position in the drivers’ standings with a risk of dropping to seventh in the upcoming Abu Dhabi race.
Expressing his frustration with his debut season at Ferrari, Hamilton described 2025 as his “worst season ever,” despite giving his all on and off the track. Mercedes has shown personal support to Hamilton during his struggles, with discussions and assistance provided to help him navigate this tough phase, including Wolff accompanying him to race events.
Mercedes’ chief communications officer, Bradley Lord, emphasized the team’s empathy for Hamilton’s situation, acknowledging his dedication and the challenges he is facing. Lord mentioned that they continue to support Hamilton and believe in his potential to bounce back stronger in the future.
Looking ahead to the final race in Abu Dhabi, Hamilton aims to maintain his sixth-place position in the drivers’ standings, currently closely trailed by Kimi Antonelli. This race marks the last time Hamilton will drive the current Ferrari model, which has posed numerous challenges for him.
Despite the current struggles, Ferrari’s team principal, Fred Vasseur, has encouraged the team to persevere and aim for a return to victory, highlighting the need to stay focused and learn from past experiences to improve performance. The team is focused on finishing the season positively before shifting their attention to the upcoming 2026 campaign.
