Football fans have been left stunned after Real Madrid legend Luka Modric announced he’s set to become part owner of Swansea City. The 39-year-old Croatian, regarded as one of the greatest midfielders in history, has had a career that’s seen him go from humble beginnings to the top of the game.

Starting his journey in Croatia, Modric soon found himself in the Premier League with Tottenham, where his impressive performances caught the attention of Madrid. During his 13 seasons with Los Blancos, Modric bagged various accolades, including four La Liga titles and six Champions League trophies.

Modric, who has been crowned Croatian Player of the Year an incredible 13 times, is also a national hero after leading his country to the World Cup final in 2018

Despite losing to France, Modric’s reputation soared during the tournament, culminating in him being awarded the coveted Ballon d’Or. Now, as he prepares to take on a new role with the Swans, we delve deeper into the life of the midfield maestro.

Modric’s net worth is estimated to be around ÂŁ56.8million. His annual salary isn’t publicly known, but it’s thought to be approximately ÂŁ7.5m per year at Real.

In 2019, reports surfaced that Modric had bought a house in Madrid valued at around ÂŁ10.3m. He’s also been sponsored by Nike for over a decade, although the exact amount he earns from this partnership remains unknown.

Modric has been married to Vanja Bosnic for 14 years after they wed in 2010. Bosnic, who comes from a sporting family – her father Milan was a basketball player – initially met Modric in 2007 while working at Mamic Sports Agency, a prominent Croatian sports marketing firm that represented the footballer.

At the time, Modric was playing for Dinamo Zagreb, and their professional relationship soon blossomed into romance. After quitting her job, Vanja went on to represent Modric as his agent, playing a key role in his ÂŁ30m transfer to Real Madrid in 2012. The couple have three children together: Ivano, Ema, and Sofia.

Although the extent of Modric’s stake in Swansea City is unclear, the Croatian midfielder has expressed his enthusiasm for the project. “Swansea has a strong identity, an incredible fanbase, and the ambition to compete at the highest level,” he said.

“Playing at the highest level, I believe I can provide my experience to the club. My goal is to support the club’s growth in a positive way and to help to build an exciting future.”

Swansea are currently 12th in the Championship, and while it’s not clear what Modric’s goals with the Swans are, his investment is not thought to be a barrier to him continuing his playing career.

The Swans said: “Luka’s investment in the club is an endorsement of the club’s ambition and vision. He will play a key role in helping the club garner global attention and progress both on and off the pitch.”

While it’s his first foray into club ownership, he reportedly hopes to captain Croatia at the 2026 World Cup and says he wants to continue playing for Madrid as he approaches his 40s.
