Former Wales Women’s head coach, Warren Abrahams, sadly passed away at the age of 43 while coaching the Belgium national women’s sevens team during a tournament in Nairobi, Kenya. The Belgium Rugby Federation confirmed the news, expressing mourning for his sudden death and ensuring support for players and staff. The team has returned to Belgium and is receiving psychological assistance.

Abrahams, originally from the Western Cape in South Africa, had a background in rugby playing for Durbanville-Bellville and Stellenbosch University before transitioning to coaching. Throughout his career, he coached various teams including Wales Women, USA sevens, England Sevens men’s team, and the Harlequins academy. His former club, Harlequins, paid tribute to him on social media, highlighting his impactful contributions to player development.

Abrahams’ coaching tenure with Wales Women was short-lived, lasting less than nine months before parting ways with the WRU. The exact cause of his death remains undisclosed. His passing has left a void in the rugby community, with many expressing condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.
