A former adult film star, Devyn Michaels, age 47, has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the killing of her ex-husband, Jonathan Willette. The verdict came after a lengthy trial where prosecutors and defense lawyers presented contrasting narratives to the jury.
Prosecutors alleged that Michaels harbored resentment towards Willette after he gained full custody of their children. Despite attempts by Michaels’ defense team to shift suspicion to Willette’s son, no concrete evidence linking him to the crime scene was provided, such as CCTV footage or phone records.
In 2023, Michaels was arrested following the discovery of Willette’s decapitated body with severe burns at his residence in Las Vegas. The investigation suggested Michaels disposed of Willette’s head in a nearby trash bin.
During the trial, prosecutors presented graphic crime scene images, including photos of Willette’s mutilated body, warning jurors of the disturbing nature of the evidence.
The prosecution argued that Michaels wanted to eliminate Willette as he planned to move away with her and his son. Michaels had previously been married to Willette before marrying his son, Deviere Willette, claiming both marriages were convenience-based.
Deviere Willette testified that he was not involved in his father’s murder. Prosecutors showed a video where Michaels confessed to striking Willette with a candlestick-like object during a massage, leading to his death.
Despite claims of physical incapability to commit the crime, Michaels’ legal team failed to provide conclusive evidence to support their defense.
Prior to the trial, Michaels confessed to second-degree murder but later attempted to retract it. The court upheld her initial plea, ruling it was voluntary and informed.
Michaels, also known as Nikki Fairchild and Tracee Taverz, expressed remorse but maintained her innocence, leading to the case proceeding to trial.
