At least one individual has passed away and 10 others have sustained injuries following a car driving into a crowd in Japan.

Approximately twelve people were struck in downtown Tokyo before the driver tried to escape on foot. An elderly pedestrian in his 80s, who was walking in the area during the incident, is believed to have succumbed to the impact. A woman in her twenties was also discovered severely injured and unresponsive, and she was promptly transported to the hospital for treatment, where she remains. The accident occurred around 12:30 pm on Monday in the Adachi Ward of the city.

Tokyo law enforcement officers successfully apprehended the suspect about 500 meters away from the scene, and the individual has been taken into custody.

Authorities are currently investigating the event as a hit-and-run incident. They are also exploring potential connections between the crash and a recent vehicle theft at a nearby car dealership that occurred two hours prior.

This occurrence follows a previous incident where a vehicle struck a group of students leaving school in Japan, resulting in at least seven injuries. A concerned citizen contacted emergency services outside Senbon Elementary School in Tokyo. Yazawa Yuki, 28, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The suspect, a resident of Higashimurayama City, admitted after the collision: “I was frustrated with everything, so I attempted to harm someone and ran over multiple elementary school students with my car.”
