Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Barbora Krejcikova from Czechia have progressed in the Cincinnati Open. They secured a victory against the fourth-seeded duo of Cristina Bucsa from Spain and Nicole Melichar-Martinez from the USA with a score of 6-3, 1-6, 10-4 in the Round of 32 of the women’s doubles event. The match lasted for one hour and 33 minutes.

This tournament marks the first time that Dabrowski and Krejcikova have teamed up. In the next round, they will compete against the unseeded Czech pair of Linda Noskova and Marie Bouzkova in the Round of 16 scheduled for Tuesday.

In another match, Leylah Fernandez from Laval, Quebec, and her partner Sara Errani of Italy defeated Tamara Korpatsch from Germany and British player Emily Webley-Smith after a tight battle lasting one hour and 29 minutes with a score of 6-2, 7-6 (2). Despite Korpatsch and Webley-Smith’s strong performance in the second set, Fernandez and Errani managed to secure the victory. They will now face Chan Hao-ching from Taiwan and Maya Joint from Australia in the Round of 16.

Fernandez, who was defeated by Xiyu Wang from China in the women’s singles event on Sunday, showcased a strong performance with two aces, 23 winners, one double fault, and only nine unforced errors out of the total 34 in the match.
