Christian Horner is reportedly being considered as a potential replacement for Andy Cowell as the team principal of Aston Martin. Cowell, aged 56, is rumored to be on the verge of dismissal following the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Horner, the former head of Red Bull, has been eager to return to Formula 1 since leaving in July.
After a challenging Las Vegas GP, RacingNews365 disclosed that Cowell’s position at Aston Martin was in jeopardy due to the team’s current struggle in the Constructors’ Championship standings. The report suggested that Andreas Seidl, a former McLaren and Sauber figure, was the frontrunner to take over.
BBC Sport has reported that Horner is also in contention to succeed Cowell at Aston Martin. Horner, a prominent figure in the sport, has been linked to various teams post his departure, including Ferrari, Haas, and Alpine, making this opportunity potentially significant.
Rumors of Horner moving to Aston Martin emerged before the Singapore Grand Prix but were swiftly denied by Cowell, who stated that there were no plans for Horner to be involved in the team’s operations or investments in the future.
If Horner were to join Aston Martin, it would lead to a reunion with his rival Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren Racing, who previously had a cordial relationship with Horner but criticized him before the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Meanwhile, Red Bull had a successful outing in Las Vegas as Max Verstappen secured victory, keeping his hopes alive in the Drivers’ Championship. However, both McLaren cars were disqualified post-race, allowing Verstappen to close in on Norris in the championship standings as they head to Qatar.
