“Chancellor Rachel Reeves Vows to Ease Cost of Living”

Published on

The Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, has pledged to address the rising cost of living to assist families impacted by years of austerity policies under the Conservative government.

In a commitment to Mirror readers, Reeves promised a Budget aimed at reducing NHS waiting lists, cutting national debt, and lowering the overall cost of living. The upcoming Budget announcement on November 26 is expected to include measures such as abolishing the two-child benefit cap, introducing taxes on high-value properties, and implementing strategies to reduce energy bills.

Reeves emphasized that the Budget would prioritize working families, aiming to create a fairer and more secure Britain. She highlighted the importance of tackling NHS waiting lists, reducing national debt, and alleviating the financial burdens faced by households.

Acknowledging the economic challenges faced by ordinary families, Reeves stressed the need to take decisive action to control the cost of living. She emphasized that the Budget would focus on addressing high prices that disproportionately affect working families.

Additionally, the government has already taken steps to alleviate some financial pressures, including extending the freeze on prescription charges in England and implementing breakfast clubs to support children from low-income families.

Reeves assured Mirror readers that the upcoming Budget would provide further support to families and contribute to building a stronger and fairer society. The government’s plans also include recruiting additional planners to accelerate the construction of 1.5 million homes, with a £48 million budget boost allocated for this purpose.

Furthermore, the Budget is anticipated to introduce measures to hold employers accountable for breaching national minimum wage regulations, along with new enforcement powers for Border Force and HM Revenue & Customs to combat illegal activities in the marketplace.

In response to feedback and forecasts, any proposed tax increases are likely to be targeted rather than broad-based, and the government is committed to enhancing protections for workers and ensuring fair pay practices.

The government’s efforts to crack down on unscrupulous employers and uphold fair labor practices demonstrate a commitment to supporting workers and promoting a level playing field in the labor market.
