A pilot from Britain has been given a 20-year prison sentence in Spain for the chemsex murder of a man he had arranged to meet for a weekend of intimacy. The jury concluded that Aaron Rainbow, 50, originally from Surrey, had fatally stabbed Oscar Tornero, 38, after a drug binge. Trial judge Carmen Sucias Rodriguez upheld the sentence, disregarding the defense’s plea for leniency due to drug influence. Additionally, Rainbow was ordered to compensate Oscar’s family and ex-partner with nearly £470,000, primarily for his daughter.
Rainbow defended his actions by claiming self-defense during the trial, citing confusion and paranoia from drug use. He alleged feeling threatened by the possibility of being recorded and attacked by strangers. Testimonies from witnesses, including a previous encounter involving drug-induced violence, supported the prosecution’s case. The victim’s family lawyer described the events as a grim precursor to the tragic incident.
The state prosecutor increased Rainbow’s prison term from 19 to 20 years following the jury’s decision, aligning with the victim’s family’s demands. Despite claims of temporary insanity and fear, Rainbow’s defense lawyer failed to secure an acquittal. Concerns were raised about the investigation process, with Rainbow’s family comparing the case to a suspenseful drama. The accused had been held in custody for two years, which will be considered in determining his release date.
