Apple’s AirTag has become a must-have for those who frequently misplace their belongings. Launched in 2021, these compact trackers have gained popularity for their ability to pinpoint lost items on a map. Their small size allows them to be attached to keys, placed in bags, laptop cases, or luggage effortlessly.
When in proximity to the AirTag, your iPhone offers precise on-screen directions, and the AirTag can emit a sound to aid in locating it. The latest AirTag model boasts an upgraded Ultra Wideband chip, enhancing its tracking range significantly.
Apple claims that this enhancement increases Precision Finding by up to 50%, making it easier to locate lost items from a greater distance. Additionally, Precision Finding is now compatible with select Apple Watch models, enabling users to track down misplaced items directly from their wrist.
Furthermore, Apple has enhanced the new AirTag’s sound capabilities. With a redesigned internal speaker, the updated AirTag can emit sounds that are 50% louder than its predecessor, making it easier to find when hidden in hard-to-reach places.
AirTags rely on Apple’s extensive Find My network, which leverages nearby Apple devices to relay location updates anonymously. The system has been revamped with a focus on privacy, ensuring that location history is not stored on the AirTag itself, and all communication with the Find My network is encrypted end-to-end to protect the owner’s privacy.
The new AirTag seamlessly integrates with Share Item Location, an iOS feature that allows users to securely share an item’s location with trusted third parties, such as airlines, to aid in retrieving lost belongings. Apple has collaborated with over 50 airlines to support this feature.
The latest AirTag is now available for purchase on apple.com/uk and the Apple Store app, with in-store availability expected later this week. Prices start at £29 for a single AirTag or £99 for a pack of four, making it a more affordable option compared to the original model, which started at £35.
