Aldi has announced a list of 23 towns and cities where it aims to establish new stores. The budget-friendly supermarket is focusing on these areas as part of an extensive £1.6 billion expansion initiative set for the next two years. In its recent annual trading update, Aldi disclosed plans to launch 80 new stores between 2026 and 2027.

Aside from new store openings, the investment will be channeled into enhancing existing stores and upgrading the distribution network. Currently operating 1,060 stores, Aldi has previously declared intentions to boost this number to 1,500 stores across the UK. The expansion project is anticipated to generate numerous job opportunities and open more avenues for British suppliers.

Among the locations slated for new store development in the near future are:

Giles Hurley, the Chief Executive Officer of Aldi UK and Ireland, emphasized the brand’s commitment to providing high-quality products at competitive prices. Aldi’s unwavering dedication to offering everyday low prices without any clubs, gimmicks, or tricks has been a cornerstone of its success. With a history of nearly 35 years in the UK market, Aldi has brought affordable groceries to almost 800 towns and cities, but there remains a demand in numerous communities without an Aldi presence.

With a robust investment of £1.6 billion over the next two years, Aldi aims to cater to the needs of more customers by expanding its reach and offering its renowned pricing to millions more shoppers. The supermarket recently released its financial results for the fiscal year ending in December 2024, reporting an increase in sales to £18.1 billion.

While operating profit dipped to £435.5 million, Aldi attributed this in part to reduced prices for consumers, investments in infrastructure, and increased staff wages. Aldi also disclosed a reduction in prices across its product range, with over 900 price cuts implemented in recent months, reflecting an investment exceeding £300 million in price reductions since the beginning of 2025.

Furthermore, Aldi raised store assistant wages twice this year, with a minimum hourly pay of £13.02 nationally and £14.35 within the M25 area starting from this month.
