Holiday Chocolate Prices Soar; Budget-Friendly Options Arise

During this time of year, many people enjoy purchasing tins of chocolates to share with loved ones or savor individually. However, if you are planning to buy some, be prepared for higher prices this season.

In the past, a tin of festive chocolates would typically cost around £5. Recently, during a visit to a supermarket, I was surprised to find that both 700g tins of Cadbury Roses and Heroes were being sold for £16.50.

Although there is a discount available for Nectar cardholders, bringing the price down to £10, it still seems quite expensive. Luckily, there are more budget-friendly options for chocolate lovers at Sainsbury’s.

For example, the Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate Mixed Chunks Tin (60g) is priced at £9.59, or £6.50 with a Nectar card. Similarly, a 750g tin of Quality Street is available for £13, or £8.50 with a Nectar card.

Additionally, shoppers can find tubs of Celebrations, Heroes, and Quality Street ranging from 500-550g for just £6 each at Sainsbury’s.

For those seeking even better deals, Tesco is offering the same 500-550g tubs of Celebrations and Quality Street for just £3.95 with a Clubcard, or £4.50 without the discount. The Heroes tub, priced at £16.50/£10 in Sainsbury’s, is only £7.50 with a Clubcard at Tesco.

Recent reports have highlighted the most affordable supermarkets for Christmas chocolate tubs. Asda currently offers standard tubs of Heroes, Roses, and Celebrations for under £5, while Morrisons sells them for £7 (or £5.50 with a Morrisons More Card).

Furthermore, Tesco provides special deals with a Clubcard, where Celebrations and Quality Street tubs are priced at £3.95, and Roses and Heroes are available for £7 (or £5.25 with a Clubcard). Aldi and Lidl also offer tubs for under £5.

Notably, Marks and Spencer and Waitrose do not stock traditional tubs on their websites. However, they offer smaller pouch-sized packets and alternative festive chocolates priced between approximately £4 and £10.
